IOP Farm Therapy Program for Teens

Ages 12-17

This is an intensive outpatient level, psychological extended care program helping younger clients who are stabilized to begin to put their lives back together.

Clients work both as an individual and as a community and team, to eventually move back into society with skills to make their lives work for them.

This program is for teens dealing with mental health issues including:

  • Childhood trauma
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Depression
  • Major depression without psychotic features
  • Social anxiety
  • Borderline personality disorder
  • Dissociative identity disorder
  • Alcohol or substance abuse
  • Disordered eating
  • Extended grief
  • Panic disorders
  • Failure to launch issues
  • Autism related issues
  • ADHD
  • ADD

All participants coming into this program are required to do a psychological evaluation by a licensed therapist, psychologist, or psychiatrist as part of the entrance requirement.

Gateways to Transformation’s teen program is a community therapeutic ecotherapy farm based program. Clients come to campus five days a week at our 40 acre permaculture inspired retreat center in therapy both in mental health sessions and through working on the farm with our staff, farm animals, permaculture lessons and gardening as well as vocational work helping each client to find what they want to do and where they want to go next when they are ready to leave the program.

A community therapy team at our campus depending upon the needs of our participants consists of therapists including licensed professional counselors, social workers, occupational therapists, case managers, certified life coaches certified permaculture instructors and expert volunteers for different specialties.

Clients will be working on their individual issues with therapists approximately 3 sessions of various kinds daily and with other specialists in other areas who have done extensive work with residential therapy at our other business, Rites of Passage’s main program as well.

This program has clients doing hands on work in all areas of the farm as well as experiential therapy and clinical therapy work and working with a variety of people that they can interact with to practice new skills.

Ecotherapy includes:

  • Equine and animal assisted therapy
  • Somatic (Dance and Yoga) Eco-therapy
  • Eco-Art Therapy both in Art Studio and out in nature
  • Horticulture / Permaculture
  • Outdoor Wilderness and Adventure Therapy

Farm based therapy includes:

  • Animal care, feeding and clean up.
  • Agriculture (planning, planting, and harvesting)
  • Horticulture including greenhouse operations.
  • Creation of holistic self-care products
  • Fencing and landscaping, construction, repair, and maintenance
  • Produce collection.
  • Habitat restoration projects
  • Recycling
  • Wellness
  • Healthy Community Practices

Vocational Therapy, volunteering and moving clients into areas of interest to work in or volunteer while looking at their next step.

Cost and Insurance

This program is ongoing with private pay only at the daily rate of 400.00 a day which is billed on a 30-day monthly rate of $12.000. Insurance will not reimburse for anything that includes outdoor wilderness therapy. However, Gateways can provide an receipt for IOP level therapy five days a week, three sessions a day, that will cover the cost of the program if parents want to resubmit to insurance themselves.
